What will it take for us to end homelessness?
In a word, collaboration. Working together as a community, we can all help hope win. Mustard Seed Shelter works alongside other members of the Saginaw County Consortium of Homeless Assistance Providers (SC-CHAP) to prevent and end homelessness in our community on an everyday basis.
SC-CHAP is a continuum of care made up of public, private and nonprofit agencies, and representatives of homeless special populations including youth, persons with mental illness, victims of domestic violence, veterans, persons with AIDS, LGBTQ communities and persons with substance abuse disorders. Together with these community partners, we provide essential services 24/7 to some of the most vulnerable members of our community, while working to prevent and end systemic homelessness. One of the ways we help our community provide better services to those who are homeless or at risk of being homeless is by entering intake data into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). Our director also serves on the SC-CHAP board, providing leadership in matters of planning, policy, resource allocation and oversight of our HMIS to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

It’s time to take a stand against hunger and homelessness
A child dies of a hunger-related illness every 10 seconds worldwide. In the U.S., one of every five children lives in poverty. And each year, 3.5 million people sleep in parks, under bridges, in shelters, or in cars. In fact, here in Saginaw, more than 350 of our neighbors have no place to go every night.
Homelessness and hunger are widespread problems that affect many people in Michigan, including throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region. Mustard Seed Shelter provides shelter and food to the women and children who grace our doors each day. Learn about our other services here.
