Our neighbor and long-time Saginaw resident Mable Freeman will be turning 90 years young on June 9. When her children asked how she would like to celebrate this milestone birthday, Mable replied that she would like the celebration of her 90 years of life to make a difference. She does not want any gifts for herself, but rather wishes to partner with an organization that relies on donations and support from the community. She immediately thought of Mustard Seed Shelter as she lives right here in our neighborhood, just a few blocks away. Mable said she has always heard about the good work we do and she knows women and families who have lived here have been transformed during their stay and beyond. (Download flyer with QR code)

Donations to honor Mable’s birthday can be made here on our website (scan the QR code or use this special link) or may be sent directly to us at:

The Party

We’ll be celebrating Mable on Saturday, June 10, at a party in the Mission in the City Park, just a few blocks from our home. Join us for cake and ice cream!

More about Mable

While raising her children, Mable worked as a secretary for the Saginaw Board of Education for 30 years before retiring in 1995, making an impact in the lives of thousands and thousands of children.

During her working years, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels and served food to the hungry at local hunger centers.

Since retirement, Mable has remained active! She has volunteered at the Michigan/Versiti Blood Center for 28 years and in her “spare time” she enjoys walking, playing cards and reading. She is also an avid sports fan – especially football, basketball and baseball.
