The Public Film and Homelessness Panel Discussion

The Public is a fictional account of a group of homeless people who take over the Cincinnati Public Library on a freezing night when all of the shelters are full. It speaks to the larger problem of homelessness in America and about how public libraries are truly one of the last places open and freely accessible to the public.

A panel discussion follows the film. Library representatives will talk about how the libraries in Saginaw serve people who are homeless. Mustard Seed Shelter Director Amy Bartels Roe and Mary Ellen Johnson from Saginaw County Youth Protection Council will address problems of poverty and homelessness in our community and share what their organizations are doing, along with other members of the Saginaw County Consortium of Homeless Assistance Providers – and ways the community can help.
